So anyway its coming close to Christmas and as I have two sons 18 months apart they are great friends as well as brothers so I thought this apt. We have always treat them equally in all things ( I have OCD) anyway I found this piece of curly mahogany at a local wood yard would you believe in the scrap bin as it was a short end, so I cleaned it up re-sawed it to reveal this beautiful figuring and so managed to make these two boxes from it. They are of dovetail construction I didnt use a router for these as I was inspired by a Fine Woodworking series on dovetails to make a tablesaw/bandsaw jig. I am thoroughly sold on this method now as they are of hand cut dimensions, with infinite spacing options and they don’t look like a routed joint. ( not that that is a bad thing just my new preference). I thought it summed up my boys (now in their early thirties) side by side and cut from the same stock and with a lot of beauty and character. Happy Christmas boys I love you!

Very fitting use of some spectacular wood. I like the lid detail a lot. The quadrant hinges are a fitting touch also. Very nice work indeed.
