A customer wanted a chocolate box as seen in the movie “Matilda”. The customer provided a very small photo from a scene in the movie that did not reveal a lot of detail. We exchanged some ideas and agreed on this design. It features a “teapot” like profile, decorative carvings, and a rope-like border on the rop.
The box was made from black walnut. 6/4 stock was carved on my Carvewright CNC machine for the sides. I made at least 5 passes cutting scrap on my table saw to get a perfect 45 degree miter set up. Finish was a couple coats of shellac, Testor’s metallic gold paint, and topcoat of clear satin acrylic spray.
This was my first box of this type. It was a challenging but fun project. I will do more.
