My daughter requested I design and build a custom cabinet, or organizer, that fits into her entry way closet… hold her many shoes and boots.

I decided to go with common pine painted semi-gloss white. I routed 3/4 wide grooves for the shelving. I probably should have made a special jig, but I just clamped 2 guide boards in place for each groove, to guide the router with its round base.

I used Luan as the back cover material.

I used 1×12’s to build the cabinet. All 1×12’s warp a little, so I had to use bar clamps to force the wide boards in to the routed grooves.

My daughter was very happy with the end product. She loves being able to store all of her shoes, and can even store her boots upright versus folded over.

To see all of my trials & tribulations building this organizer, see my web site.

Everyone needs more shelf/storage space. Nicely done!

She had one of those plastic back door hanger things, that was so full of shoes, the door to the closet would not close all the way.

Now, she even has enough room to go shopping and buy another pair of shoes :)
