I’m not much of a wood turner. I make the occasional pen or turn knobs for a bow saw I made, etc. and I enjoy my time on the lathe but I have to admit it’s not my real passion for woodworking. I made this mallet when I found an amazing little piece of curly white oak. It was too small to make a box large enough to give justice to the amazing grain so I decided to use it for a mallet. I glued the oak around a 2×2x12 turning blank I bought. Sorry, I don’t remember what the species the blank was. I finished is on the lathe with a few coats of wax. It’s beautiful, heavy and the oak is as tough as nails. I don’t use it with my nice chisels but is sure is a nice “beater” when I need one. I hope I live long enough wear this one out! :-)
