I needed a mallet, so I split up a white ash log and made a couple mallet heads. I then fitted red oak handles with a tapered mortise and finished them with just BLO. I learned this method watching an episode of The Woodwright Shop on PBS. I used no glue, just friction. They work fantastic! I highly recommend it as an easy beginner project using scraps. I learned a bunch and have an indespensable tool taboot!

Me too! I made three Big Ash Mallets this fall. I haven’t posted mine yet, but it’s on my list.

Your’s look great, I like the shape of the handles.
