Finished my first boys cradle earlier this week. The base is walnut. Actual cradle is white oak. The slats are poplar. I used an old chisel handle for the locking pin. Got the plans from AWW. I didn’t turn the spindles – just Home Depot dowels. I altered the dimensions to fit the updated mattress sizes. Rocks very well and smooth. I made a few design modifications for my preferences. Thoroughly enjoyed this project. Can’t wait for the boy!

A beautiful cradle! One to be used for generations.

Nice work. I think cradles are great.
I made several but knowing they are not used for very long (usually about 6 months) and not having any girls who would use them for their dolls and stuffed toys I made mine so they came apart and folded flat for storage. I used threaded inserts and brass bolts. It makes it a lot easier to store them for future generations.
