I have lurked for years, signed up recently, and I wanted to post something to introduce myself. So hello everybody!
Before my daughter was born I thought to myself I’m going to make her a dresser. Besides a bookcase that was not very exciting this is the first piece of furniture I ever made. I learned a lot. Namely have a plan. I may have spent more time thinking about how to build a dresser than actually building the dresser.
It’s made completely of oak from my uncles farm. I’m not too fond of oak but I have access to a lot of it so it’s what I used. I wanted to hand dovetail the drawers but considering I spent so much time thinking about simply how to build a dresser I used a pocket hole jig instead.
The finish is just boiled linseed oil.

Nice looking dresser. You said that you aren’t fond of oak. Have you tried quarter sawn oak? It is much nicer looking and more stable. It also takes finish better.
I really like that second drawer though.
Welcome to LJ’s.

I do like the quarter sawn stuff. Unfortunately my uncle plain saws all his logs for the sake of time. I essentially have a life time supply of the stuff, I simply have to visit him in Nebraska to load up every now and again. I think I’ll simply make myself fond of it!
Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
