I had a small branch from a sycamore tree that I saved from being burned in a clearing of an old woods. The pith made a nice contrast on the stem. The dark spots are holes from three small branches coming out the side.

Very nice turning, how do you handle the pith as to avoid cracking?

Actually, I did think it was going to crack. To my delight it held. Most of the items I have turned in the past with the pith in has cracked. Just lucky with this one.
