A friend asked if I could build a loft bed for her 6 year old daughter. I asked what she liked, “Batman.”

She wanted to keep it inexpensive, and since it was a paint project I just used construction grade ply. The only guidelines were that it needed storage area sized for pre-made fabric cubes and it would be nice if it had a desk. It went together very quickly with the pocket screw jig. Other than the shelf dividers, nearly everything was stack cut using a standard jigsaw.

It could use another coat of paint, but I think it turned out well. We’ll be setting it up later this week while her daughter is visiting a relative. Pretty anxious to see her reaction.

It looks really cool, but I must be missing something somewhere. How do they get in the bed? Is there a ladder not pictured?

The bookcase at the rear has progressively deeper shelves – each is 4” narrower as you go up. Whether that’s a ladder or a staircase, I’m not sure. The cut down in the back is at mattress height.
