I built this custom cutting board style countertop for a young couple that just bought their first home. While the wife and her mother do most of the things that need doing, that gave me the honor of making this. It’s 7.5 feet long and the backsplash is live edge black walnut.
Just in case anyone is wondering about the woods we used they are, black walnut, (also the backsplash is live edge black walnut) white oak, maple, cherry, hickory and the prettiest of all I think, sycamore. I wish I had close ups because some of the sycamore is beautiful. It is quartersawn that I sawed with my mill. Matter of fact all the wood except the maple was wood I milled, the maple was salvaged from cabinet doors and most of the other wood is from the tornadoes we had here 3 years ago.
The walnut in this countertop is from the same tree as the walnut in the desk that GRIZZMAN won the contest with.
It will not be long before this customer will be building and selling more than I ever dreamed of. She has a god given talent for woodworking and painting. She uses stain to create beautiful butterflies. huge deer heads, etc on table tops and floors, all using just the color stain that she is staining the table or floor. If my computer doesn’t freeze up I will post pics of a doorway she and her mother done using 10” diameter solid pine logs. I honored to get to teach her what I can. She and her mother will come over and spend all day helping on some projects like the log doorway.

Grizzman, I’ve got to get her linked up to you because she is really into the style work you do and you will see from the project I just listed. I hope to add some pictures of her paintings I guess you call them, that she done on her floors and table tops. She even stained a set of pistols on the floor of a doorway. If I keep this computer long enough I will. Right now I’ve got some 18 inch wide pine boards to saw that are being picked up this afternoon. Thanks for the kind words.
