Project Information

I love that Mesquite, This is a men's valet box with hidden drawer and hidden compartment, I have to tip my hat to John (Hillbillyshooter) for lighting the fire to broaden my design in order to house the pocket and compact sized hand guns, I just recently purchased an M&P Smith & Wesson shield 9mm for two reasons my self assurance and to help use it as a guide for building these boxes. As you see in the pictures the compartment will hold the pistol, an extra magazine and a small box of ammo all hidden away by the false bottom door, the hidden compartment is accessed by a small tray which acts as the key via magnets to lift the door away, the splines and drawer pulls are wenge, the top tray is walnut.

I've increased the size of the box just for this reason, it measures 12 3/4" x 8" x 7" the hidden compartment measures 7" x 5 3/4" x 2" it is finished in a single coat of tung oil, a coat of non-waxed shellac over the end and edge grain for a sealer, two coats of wipe on satin poly and a final wipe of paste wax.

Thanks for viewing and comments are always enjoyed and replied too.

Pretty nifty. Nice work all around. Now you should do a night stand with a hidden compartment for a full size hand gun and a couple magazines. Stay 2nd amendment, my friend.

Nice box. But I'm not sure about needing a gun for "self assurance."

Great work, though. I like the hidden features.

Thanks once again everyone, Chris, I'll change the self assurance to because I wanted it but if there is that rare occurrence that it might come in handy then it's there, I think it would fall under the ole saying it's better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.

Randy I really agree with you on the gun. The people that make the rules here in Hawaii would much rather we don't own them…they had their say, the people had theirs and we still own them.

Hey Larry, I prob said to much about the gun, it's purchased and left it at that, guns these days are very touchy so I try not to shack the tree to much.

I like all of your builds, but, I think I like this one the best Randy. I really like the false bottom for concealing, and all the other fine details of this. You've got this style down pat sir. Super nice.
