This is the first box I’ve attempted. Really just seeing if I could do it.
Carcass is oak, bottom is maple, the top inset is spalted maple I had lying around and the splines are wenge from a scrap I had left over. Everything was assembled as a closed in box and then the top/bottom pieces cut and separated.
All in all I don’t think it turned out to shabby.
You can see the table it is sitting on here.

For your first box, it came out very nice!

Exceptionally neat box, and beautiful choice of woods, they go so well together.

Jim, great looking box. I’m trying to gear up to do something like that as well. I really like the idea of mitered corners with splines, such as you did. What was your basic method for cutting the miters? Table saw with sled, hand saw with miter box, etc?

Yes, it was a table saw sled.
