Recipe boxes for 3×5 cards.

The hinge on one is made integral to the box by laminating two pieces for the back of the box, matching up pre-cut grooves for a brass rod to fit in. Top on this one is a piece of Padouk epoxied on maple panel with Black India ink mixed in around the borders. Finished this with General Polyacrylic which should hold up well in kitchen environment but I don’t think it’s as nice a look as oils. Also the patch on the side is the repair of a too deep cut. Hinge on this box is an expansion and over complication of original Shipwright idea. It fits and functions very nicely but is somewhat complicated to make.

The other box is made with hinges center face cut on the Incra I-box and inset into the back of box. I’m thinking I like the even spaced box joint style better. Finished this with Poly-BLO-Mineral spirits mixture. top is Brazilian Cherry and bottom is Birdseye Maple.

Thanks for looking.

Hey Daniel,
Those are absolutely beautiful! Amazing!! I absolutely love the ( is it birdseye maple?? ) wood on the left one. Your boxes are always so beautiful and classy. Keep up the great work.

These boxes are awesome. Nice design and cool hinges. Great color combo with the lumber.
