I needed some more counter space in my kitchen for food prep as well as a permanent place to keep my toaster oven, it had been travelling back and forth from the counter to the floor. I know not the best plan. Hence this build.

I plan on using the top for rolling out pie dough, mounting my Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer and cutting stuff. I was going to place my toaster oven on the shelf, but it looks so good I am having a hard time doing that. I do want to mention I love Black Cherry; such beautiful and characterizing grain and color from greens to rich reds and pale browns.

Legs are Black Cherry, top is Hard Maple, shelf is Black Walnut, end grain butcher block made of Black Walnut and Black Cherry.

Three coats of Semi-Gloss Polyurethane on the legs and shelf.

Is the top made from salvaged butcher block? If not, what are the holes (at least they look like holes) on the front face?

Yes the top is refurbished butcher block. The holes are through holes. I think this was originally in a bar, where the counter rotates up to allow entrance behind the bar.
