Hi everybody,
as we’ve just built our new house there is hardly any time for woodworking, but I was lucky: We needed a coat rack and couldn’t find one that we liked, so my wife and boss asked me to make one.
It’s a simple frame made from 3/4 inch pine. The frame is glued with biscuits and then glued on a cardboard back with construction adhesive. I then ripped and powerplaned all the leftover wood from our roof, cut and glued it to the cardboard back inside the frame. I found that two stains (golden teak / walnut) one after the other gave it a much deeper and richer colour than the walnut stain alone (looked kind of purple).
Good project for using up scrapwood.
The hardware itself is from Ikea. After a disappointing trip to the hardware store I decided to buy two Ikea coat racks and used only the hooks. It was not even a third of the money for the cheapest hardware at the store! And better quality as well!
Bye
Alex

Alex, I like your coat rack and the use of saved materials. Nice to see you post again, I often wonder what happens to some of my buddies. Funny that you could buy a completed project from a store and use the hardware from it and save money over new hardware.
