Built this wall cabinet for my wife to display her fancy china. It’s made of Tas Oak with mitred biscuit joined corners. The shelves sit in a dado. I had to use putty to fill my joins as the 2 shelves were a tad short and I clamped the sides a tad too far forcing the mitres open a little. The 3 shelves have dados across them for standing plates.
The back is plywood with wrapping paper glued on with a PVA glue/water mix. The whole project is sealed with wipe on poly and screwed to the wall from behind (it backs onto the recess for our refrigerator).
I’ve made several furniture items with pine, this is my first project with hardwood, harder to work with and less forgiving than what I’m used to, still fairly happy with the result, the Mrs loves it.
