Work Holding Trick – Portable Planing Jig / Board
This shop trick is from the Fine Woodworking magazine (Dec. 2002), using a cam clamp to secure a stock for planing, carving, etc. I got my clamp from Lee Valley:

You may adapt and use a different type of clamp for this trick.
To use, clamp the board on the bench using the cleat with a vise or a clamp on the front. To hold stock thinner than the jaws, simply shim the workpiece up with a scrap.
The last photo shows an invited visitor as I worked with the jig, drawing my attention with his (her?) vocalized entry.
