Platform bed with drawers out of Cypress

I’ve been wanting to build this be for a long time. We bought a new memory foam mattress and that seemed like the right time. I had no plans to follow. Just some ideas in my head and a few notes on a piece of paper. I bought rough sawn cypress from a somewhat local supplier. I bought 16 1×6x8 and 6 1×8x6 all 4/4. This was a lot more than I needed, but I needed to buy enough to make the trip worthwhile. The drawers are 30” wide and 24” deep. This will be a lot of extra clothes storage. Piece made the drawers with the front attached to sides with sliding dovetails and the back joints were lock rabbets. These were firsts for me, so it took a little time, but they turned out good I think. I love the cypress. The finish is sprayed on Minwax polycrylic. Thanks for looking.

Really nice. I love the storage under the bed. The cypress has a great color.

Very nice job on the platform bed, Bill! I hope to have one similar to yours posted after October (after big conference). Happy birthday wishes to Mrs. Bill.

I absolutely love it, Bill. That is one high class bed. The cypress is fantastic.

Great work Bill, and you work fast…....seems like it was just a week ago you started on this!? Lot’s of good learning in this one and I think those sliding dovetails are a good idea….those drawers will last forever….well done…..

A fantastic build.
Sure to be well used for years to come.

I’m thinking that with the mattress installed….
It will be much more comfortable!!!

Thanks for the nice comments. Good luck with your bed build Don. Feel free to copy anything I did and learn from my mistakes. Jeff I picked up the wood a week ago today. Needed to get this done and move on to the next…

Bill

That is a wonderful job and I have not seen better.

Many years ago my wife wanted to buy a bed like that but it was way to much so we just stayed with a metal frame.

The lady folks can never have enough storage. Well done

Bill, Outstanding job on the bed. I love working with cypress. Y’all will enjoy that for many years and I’ll bet it lasts for generations.

Great job, Bill. Plenty of storage and it looks good and sturdy.
That cypress is very nice.
