One of my oldest friends asked me to build this table (and a set of bar stools) for her and her husband to pass on to their children. A Barista – Dutch Extension Table – The leaves slide under the top from the ends via a shop made “slide”. The dimensions were given by the client (~35 ½”). I designed the table with Sketchup (well, most of it, my skills on Sketchup aren’t good enough to draw the complex curves of the slide mechanism). I used clear vertical grain and used standard wizardry to show a good face on all sides of each leg. The accents are Ebony. The top is ~1 ½” thick and I would guess the thing weighs about 275 pounds. Stained and finished with 6 coats of semi-gloss poly.
This kind of table with moving parts was the most challenging table I’ve built.

Nice Job! I’ve been wanting to build one of these. Did you have a design to work from or just come up with it on your own?

Thanks all! – Lboy – used the obligatory “Tage Frid” book and FWW article for reference, but had to design the mechanics from scratch – it was fun, but a definite challenge!

Very nice table. Could you post a picture of the leaf support mechanism?
