Epe and Purpleheart diz.

A diz is a device with various small holes for hand worsting yarn, they’re made from metal, ceramic, wood, and even sometimes cardboard. I make these for spinners and weavers.

I use my ShopBot Desktop CNC machine to cut out blanks with the right sized holes, then turn each diz by hand on the lathe. The finish is Mahoney’s oil wax. They’re 2.5” in diameter.

A fun little project and a great use for all that exotic scrap wood I can’t bear to throw out.
