The third picture is the first lamp I turned for our living room made with quarter saw en Sycamore. After running it thru the table saw to make it an octagon for easier turning I was looking at the four wedges I had left and thunked of what I could do with them. A lightening bolt struck me(gave me a headache too) and I shaved off one on the points and glued them together making a block to which I could glue another layer of the Sycamore so when I turned this one it gave me the spots all the way thru the project. My wife Glendia said I was genius and not wanting to start an argument I agreed. LOL LOL The base for all three of these lamps is Cocabola which I learned a lot about using some exotics. Acetone had to be used to get the glue to hold tow pieces together. When I first put my glues piece on the lathe as soon at the tool touched it it blew up and came apart in a few more pieces than it started out as.
