Hour Glass

Made these years ago, thought I’d throw them in. I liked the idea of an hour glass so I tried some ideas. Not spectacular but they do work and after twenty five years are still holding up. Amazing. They are not exactly an hour. Sand came from different locals I visited. The big dark one was the first one I made just to see if it might work. Sorry about the photos they are the only ones I had. I no longer own them. Broke a lot of glass cutting the pieces. That was the first time I ever used a lath and I haven’t used one since. Hope to change that soon though.

Wow, that’s a really neat project to build. I’d like to know how you timed an hours worth of sand? just let it go through the hole for an hour and then stop it?

Just went for the look. They were not accurate for time. I’d always forget to check it and the sand would pour through before I could get a good read. Didn’t matter to me that they were actually one hour or not. Just a novelty fun project.
