It has been a while since I posted a project so I thought that I better get something different made. I have made a few larger ribbon boxes before and wanted to try my hand at making a mini ribbon. The box is made of walnut and maple and is 4” long x 3 1/4” wide x 2 1/2” high. The ribbon is made of walnut, cherry, and maple and is 1/2” wide.

Beautifully executed! Can you share the technique to make the ribbon curls?

This is perfect! I’ve been looking for a small box project and I think I just found it! My scroll saw has been feeling neglected lately. Beautifully done, Professor! Thanks for sharing.

I draw the layout on my material and then drill the centers out of each bow section, then I use the bandsaw to cut the rest of the bow out. To get the remaining material out of the center I make a cut with the bandsaw at the inside base of each bow, clean out the material, do a little sanding, and put a dab of super glue at each cut point and clanp it together for a few minutes. My scrollsaw is in need of some serious repairs so I have one of my bandsaws setup with a thin blade.

Hopefully that explains my technique for making the bow.

This ribbon box is really fantastic. Sanding those curves has to be a huge chore.

Impressive! Great job on the detail from the ribbon on the top, design, wood selection and finish!
