An oak and walnut version of my “Concord” clock.
The oak is fumed with ammonia, at about 3 hours. I had no worries about tannin mis-match resulting in uneven results because all the oak is from the same board. I just can’t seem to get the color – and clarity – I want from stains, dyes, etc. Maybe (and probably) I just stink at finishing…nevertheless, the finish is wonderful, in my opinion, and easy.
The walnut is all from the same board as well, no fuming.
The copper-clad tile is what the customer provided.
Topcoat of General Finishes Arm R Seal, semi, twice.
Stands about 18” tall.

It’s beautiful. Have you tried using some Danish oil natural? Heat it up to about the same temp as a cup of coffee and it seems to penetrate a little better on oak.

Very nice style.
I too hate the new stain formulas.
