My buddies on LJ’s know that I neither claim to be a cabinet maker or do I have nary a desire to be one. So naturally one of my oldest friends in the world came looking to have a cabinet built for his daughters dorm room. As bad as I didn’t want to say yes, I told him if he would buy the materials I would give it a go. Several days went by and I was starting to hope he had changed his mind when low and behold…he comes toting in a couple of sheets of plywood and some 1×4’s. I have gotten into the habit of having the big box store break the plywood sheets down when I pick them up but I neglected to tell him this so …. After a wee bit of plywood wrestling this is what I came up with. The carcase is 1/2” and the door skins and back were metric equivalent of 3/8” so thankfully it wasn’t too bad. The handles he got were made for 3/4” thick doors so I had to scramble to make them work on the thin stuff. Sadly I ran out of days on my vacation so he is going to stain and clear coat it . 60” tall, 28” wide and 19.5” deep. The only frills were adjustable shelves and in the door storage.

Dorm rooms are so cramped, so having extra storage is a plus. Nice job on the cabinet.

JFred- thank you. We helped deliver my sons stuff to his dorm last year. That room was so small that you had to step out in the hall just to change your mind…lol Kayla must be in a luxury suite if she has room for this!!!

Bill- THank you sir. This guy is one of those friends who if you call for help, he is gonna be there if at all possible…

Buster, you may not claim or want to be a cabinet maker, but it is obvious that you are. AND a good one too!

Monte- Thank you sir. I try to keep moving forward but keep getting bumped sideways….lol

Marty- Thank you buddy. I have nary a doubt yours will turn out much nicer.

Candy- Thank you my friend. Its all smoke and mirrors….lol amazing what low lighting and weird camera angles will do for ones projects!!!!

Hoss- Thanks buddy. She is attending UTK. Congrats on the pending graduations and your daughters soon to be freshman year. No way this cabinet would fit in some of the older dorm rooms at TTU.

Carbide- Thank you buddy. Refer to my comment to Candy…lol

Mike- Thank you sir… Hadn’t thought about her storing shoes in it….nice….might be a market there….. Of course IKEA can sell it cheaper than I can build it …sigh

Buster that a well thought out and built cabinet. it sure can hold a lot of stuff in a small space- just what is needed in a dorm. You may get orders for more like I did for lofts!!
