This book stand is based on the Roycroft Little Journeys tabletop book stand. The antique original measured 26”w x 7”h x 7” d (photo 5). The knock down book stand was shipped with a 16 volume set of Little Journeys stories. It had tusk tenons. My version is scaled down and measures 14” w x 7’H x 7” d. It is made out of quartersawn white oak. I ropted for pegged M&T joints since there is no need to take it apart. The stand is finished with Trans Tint reddish brown dye and General antique walnut gel stain finish. The topcoat is satin polyurethane and clear Briwax.

The sides were made by drilling a series of holes and then cutting the two halves apart.

The tenons were cut using the bandsaw, router and chisels.

The tenon ends were chamfered with a low angle block plane.

Overall, it was a fun project and a pilot run for a full sized version of the Little Journeys Book Stand that will be posted soon.
