My dad gave me a small dust collector from harbor freight for Christmas. It was great for re-sawing but the shavings from planing and joining always clogged it up. So I got the cyclone lid from Woodcraft, and a steel trash can from Home Depot and then built a mobile cart around it. It is nice and compact vs the two of them being separate around the shop and it no longer clogs. If you count the dust collector itself as being free (since it was a gift), I think i spent a total of less than $120. Not bad, I’d say.

Great idea. I have been wanting to do the same with a Craftsman model I have. Did the collector have wheels attached to it (mine does). I got the lid and can from a friend some time ago and now I see what can be done with it. I have my unit hooked on a 3 way to the planer, joiner and bandsaw which make the bag fill very fast. Thanks for posting this
