I was commissioned to create a double sided sign for the Number 10 Saloon in Deadwood. The sign is made of Redwood and measures 18 by 39. After staining the board I carved out both sides on my CNC, since the sign is longer than the carving area of the bed I had to make my registration marks to ensure everything lined up and was positioned the same on both sides of the sign. I used four bits to create the sign a 60 Degree V, a 1/2 inch Bull Nose, a 1/8 inch straight, and a 1/4 inch straight bit. Once the sign was carved, I stained the edges to match the sign. The owner of the saloon will be painting in the lettering with gold paint, then they will clear coat it.

I have been to Deadwood twice, and you sign will fit in with the saloons just fine !!! In any place along the main street just off of that newer highway.

I had to ask my self back there in the hey day of Deadwood. I wonder how long it would have taken a artisan to make such a sign, and what he would have been payed.

He in all of his creativity, would never have dreames of a CNC.
