My first fine woodworking project was a small box, it was not very pretty. Now a few years later this is my second attempt.

The box 10.5” X 10.5” squared. It has mitered corners with contrasting splines to reinforce the mitered joints. The bottom and top are frame and panel. The wood species is maple and mahogany. I finished the box with:

- 1 coat BLO
- 3 coats clear shellac
- wax

I used some leftover scraps to make dividers for the inside. The lid is a rabbeted frame that fits on top.

Great looking box! I love the grain—which actually looks more like sapele—and also the color of the wood.

I think you are correct on the sapele. I assumed it was mahogany because i picked it out of a pile of pine at a salvage warehouse it and looked lile mahogany. But after researching sapele it looks more like it. Either way very good looking wood.
