During a resent remodel of our den, I had the need for a new mantel, I built it out of a 3/4” sheet of cabinet grade birch plywood. I mitered the sides of the plywood and used several different sizes of crown molding to wrap the edge and the top. I routed fluted columns out of poplar.

The last picture is the way it looked when the contractor turned it over to me. I installed Porcelain Tile over the brick then attached the mantel.

The craving in the middle was purchased at Lowes.

Great looking mantel—I need to do one of these myself!
