While helping clean up a neighborhood park, I found this chunk of wood. Couldn’t wait to split it open to see what was inside. About 16 months later (life keeps getting in the way) this is some of what I found (see pics).

Judging by other slices, I believe this is white oak. Notice the wavy grain and the spalting. I think I have to sit on this for a few years until my skills get better. I don’t want to waste such a unique piece of wood.

BTW, sliced into the chunk with my Grizzly 12 inch Anniversary Edition bandsaw equipped with a 3 tpi Wood Slicer blade from Highland Woodworking.

Nice. Looks like oak to me too.

Maybe I’m a pareidoilac, but I see a gorilla in the last 2 pics. ;-)

was there a rainbow and this is the pot of gold at the end? Great looking prize you received for your labor!
