This was my mother’s idea and she provided pretty clear direction on what she wanted. I pulled a post and pole collection permit from the forest service and harvested the materials myself with some help from my brother and niece. The top rails are 18-20 footers by 4 to 7 inches in diameter. The posts are set in concrete with steel strapping over cinder block with pea gravel for drainage. The dimensions on the gazebo are 9 feet tall from the deck by 12 feet by 16 feet. My brother helped my with 4 logs, but I carried the rest solo about 200 feet from the front drive including the biggest front post. Humping materials to the site took about as long as the construction. I purposely chose some not so straight pieces and left the felling evidence prominently on the ends.
