This was my first, and maybe my last chair I ever made! The work involved is very complicated and getting all the compound miters laid out and perfect was a lot of work. It was fun to complete though and was part of a wedding present to my sister in law.

The desk was made from curly birch that came down on a friends property. They were both finished in dewaxed shellac followed by wipe on poly.

That looks awesome! nice job. I’m a fan of the curly birch too. I made a table from it as well, it didn’t turn out as nice as yours. Found out that the birch I used was really (really) soft. when writing on a single piece of paper the table would get the imprint from the pen as well.

Very beautiful wood. Looks like a great build.

-- Nature created it, I just assemble it.

I believe its been good so far in terms of imprinting. The tree was very dense and slow growing (it was over 3’ in diameter) and also the shellac seemed to soak in and make it harder. It was fun working with it I just had to do a lot of sanding as it had some pretty good tearout due to the grain.

Only one picture after all of that work ?

Dusty, sorry I’ll have to try to get more. It was a typical woodworking project of mine. I finished the desk’s last coat a few hours before driving to NY to give it to my sister in law, drove all the way up with the windows down to not inhale too much fumes, and gave it to her the same day! I quickly snapped a picture with my phone before heading out. Next time I’m there we will get more pictures of it!
