My wife had picked up a very nice wedding cake cutter & server set for my daughters wedding last year. So I made this box to keep them in. It’s a cherry box with maple holders and an oak bottom, basically wood I had laying around. The handle hold down pivots on a pin and has hidden rare earth magnets so when it spins from open to close it’s always aligned and held tight, keeps the cutter and server from flopping around in the box. Clasp and hinges are from the local Hobby Lobby. Finish is Danish oil, clear on the oak bottom and maple holders and cherry Danish oil on the cherry wood with a coat of wipe on polyurethane to protect it.
This was completed 6/2013. I recently received a gentle prodding/poke from a friend to post projects that I’ve completed. So I’ll be posting more soon.

Great job! Are those Dovetail-ish corners or splines/keys. I really like them.

Thanks! Those are splines/keys, middle one cut @ 90 Degrees and the other two cut at about 45 degrees if memory serves me.

What a unique gift-awesome build.

What part did the Absolut play in the finishing process?

Thanks for sharing.
