My First Bowl Turning

Found this in the shed the other day – it was the very first bowl that I turned. Turned in about 2005 and I think that the wood was Cherry, but I can’t remember for sure. I had never applied a finish to it, so I remounted the bowl and applied a finish, just a friction polish. I then buffed out on the Beall Buffing System. It measures about 8” wide and is 2 1/4” deep. I don’t know what that black spot is, but it is in the identical place on the inside and outside, so it is something that was in the piece of wood.

Very nice work. It’s always good to look back to where we come from.

-- Nature created it, I just assemble it.

Very attractive piece, and great work for a first turning.

Nice job on this. Whatever wood it is, it sure is pretty.

You did a wonderful job on your first bowl Bill. My first 6’’ x 3’’ bowl turned out to be a coaster. Still have it. Something you should keep forever.

Super bowl- even if your 100th, it would be a good bowl.
