Spending the weekend at a farm open day as a guest demo turner so thought I would turn not only a miniature but also pop on a captive ring, to which many have said, how on earth did you do that?
The goblet is in oak and turned with a skew and homemade captive ring tool.
Lots of spinning tops for the kids and lots of interest from the adults.
The head ranger brought over some green hazel which we wet turned and gave back to him as a turned piece within minutes. He was delighted not only to receive but also that his fallen timber still had life in it.

This is pretty slick. I hope to be able to do the captive ring someday, that’s a nice decorative touch to a stem.
