So I bought a messed up lathe, tried fixing it but couldn’t so I sold it and looking for another. Had an add on Craigslist and a guy emailed me about one and we had talked back and forth about what he turns and all that. Well he was nice enough to invite me over and teach me the basics and let me turn for the first time. It’s not the prettiest thing in the world but was fun learning. The wood is headge and walnut with spray laqour, the head has a crack in it so probably won’t get to use it. After learning and turning that night, got up the next morning and ordered the carbide tools from captain Eddie, and a chuck and a couple other things. Just waiting for them to get here and will go get the lathe the guy was selling, seems like it might get addicting.

Wow, that’s great. I just joined a turners club here in SW Florida. Went to the local Harbor Freight and bought their benchtop 5 speed lathe. Great little lathe but man does the motor get hot !!!! I mean REALLY HOT, I think I’m going to put a fan on it somehow to cool it. Here is a picture of my first attempt at turning! Don’t laugh too hard.. LOL I put it next to a pen a buddy turned to show the size. I think I might make a few more in a lighter color wood, put an eye in the larger part and use them as Christmas decorations!

-- Just an old banjo player tryin my hand at woodworking.
