This keepsake box was built for Nicole, a dear friend of the family. She and her husband Mike have three children and when they give her things, Nicole wanted a place to keep them save and close by.

The box is made from oak with a mahogany top. The sliding tray is also oak and is for smaller items and a pen or two to make notes on items being added to Nicole’s collection. The recessed finger area idea for lifting the lid I found here in LumberJocks and thought was fantastic. What I did differently to make the recess on this box was to make the relief with a couple of Nicholson Patternmaker’s Rasps (#49 and #50). The finish is hand wiped Tung oil.
