Just practicing with my scrollsaw, hand planes, and dozuki saw. It is japanese for “respect” figured it was fitting as I am in japan!

Kinda kool scrollwork. That is about the only machine I don’t have. Not sure I would use it enough to make is worth buying.
I have several of the Jap saws with the flexible blades, thin kerf and the tiny teeth. Seems like they dull up quickly for me and I don’t know if they can be sharpened or not….I certainly don’t know how.

Nice. Really the japanese have “mistic taste”. Have many woodworkers there? Some pics from the workshop?

There’s not a lot of “craftsman” here. In japanese culture it’s considered one of the highest forms of harmony and peace to create woodcraft, they are considered close to royalty In terms of their craft and are revered above monks for their skills. I’m learning the japanese way from a master wood craftsman on base here but it’s proven difficult as he doesn’t speak English. He’s taking me this month to pick out my own custom japanese plane from the best plane maker in all japan! I’m really fortunate to get to learn other cultures and I thank god for that. I’m always willing to learn and humbled to do so!

also my “workshop is a small 3’ workbench in the corner of my living room. space is extremely limited here so If I want to get anything big done I have to rent space at the woodshop.

Nicely done! Was the symbol cut from the backer board? I like the way the grain all lines up. Thanks for sharing.
