A different color of BKP

One of the things I like about the Beetle Kill Pine is the color. Everybody spots this wood right away because of it’s slate grey/blue color with knots that stand out as golden spots when finished. We;; here’s a box made out of BKP that came in from Montana, the board was rust colored. There was no grey/blue just streaks of brown. Made the box to see how it would come out and after a 1 coat stain with Minwax Golden Pecan, this is what I got. I just wonder if I had used a redder stain would the effect been even better. Sorry that the picture of the grain wrap around the corner was out of focus. Too bad as this also showed a pretty good finger joint for a change

Anyhow the box is not important. This posting was just to show another variation in the color of BKP.

Thanks for looking in.

I do love the colors of the kill. It’s an adventure in every log. Looks like a great box.

Very neat!

I use a lot of palette wood and other salvage and some of it is amazing for grain and coloration.

Years ago; I had some black walnut that had been dunage on a load of 12” steam pipe.

Sometimes I have no idea what kind of wood it really is! I use it anyway.

Monte has shown me some with really red streaks as well as the blue. Strange stuff.

Nice box joints on this one.

I’ve finally gotten some wood coming from Monte. I don’t know how he does all the things he does. Wood should be in about Tues. Can’t wait to see it. He has such wonderful stuff, I’m sure this will be great. The last BKP was some I bought from Greenway in CO. It was OK but not a great deal of good color and few knots but every board inch of it will be used.

I think I have finally built a jig that makes decent box joints. I think they add a lot to a box.
