I made this project to give us somewhere to hang clothes as we put them on hangers directly out of the dryer. I originally was going to stop the arm and support it with chain / rope / wire to provide support, but instead I just went with supporting it on the base. I used butt joints with dowels for the ends and a magnet to ensure it doesn’t fall by accident. It works great and was a very much needed project.

Very nice and effective and it folds out of the way!

Great idea. If I were to make one I’d modify it to include the addition of a flat piece of stock that was joined to the two side rails. This would effectively create a shelf when opened. The underside of the shelf I’d have to somehow incorporate an interesting design so that when it’s folded up it is attractive as art.

Jim: Thanks for the compliments!
Dale: I like your ideas for improvement! Unfortunately, I’d procrastinated too long on getting this project done and was under orders from the boss to get it done ASAP and this was the best I could do with my limited skills under the time constraints. Since it’s going to likely be a permanent part of our house, I might just make some of the improvements you mention one of these days. Thanks!!
Have your say...
