Before I made this caddy all the gauges were piled one atop the other in a big pile. Not a good way to store them so I made this caddy to keep them in. I got the idea from one I saw on you tube video by Paul Sellers.
I made this out of poplar, although pine was my preferred choice. But I don’t think it would hold up as well as poplar will.
I made two shelves to hold my gauges. One for my mortising gauges and the second one for my marking gauges. This also helps me with wood movement since I didn’t use one big wide shelf. I secured the shelves and the bottom brace with wedged through tenons and finished it with 3 coats of shellac.
I hope that I don’t bring anymore gauges home because I’ll have to make a new one.

good idea, poplar is a very under rated wood.
