I’ve made a lot of cutting boards but this is my first attempt at end grain.I made this as a Christmas present so if it looks a little dull its because it has been used since Christmas. I was just able to take a picture the other day. I really liked how the pattern turned out. I was a little worried that it would warp because i don’t have a jointer so i had to trust that my table saw can cut straight but it turned out pretty flat. The sanding took forever and I’m sure glad i bought a belt sander. The woods are cherry, red oak, ash, and maple. Thanks for looking.

Love the pattern. Good job!

What finish did you use?

After the board had been in use … did you see differing amounts of wear on the different kinds of wood?

I just used straight mineral oil for this board as i was on a time crunch to finish it. I poured on a bunch of oil and let it soak through he board until it dripped out the other side. So far i can’t see any difference in wear between the different species but i do like how the cut marks pretty much disappear int eh end grain. All the other boards I’ve made have been edge grain and the cut marks are obvious.

Have your say...
