Before you all start collecting scrap so you can roast me alive for desecrating a beautiful tool, the molding plane pictured here was split and has warped at the split beyond repair. It was/is a 1860s-ish Gleave #8 round. There was no bringing it back from the dead, so I cleaned it up, applied a little walnut oil, and added a VERY pitted iron to make a key holder for our living room. It subtly tells first-time visitors that a carpenter/joiner/Ébéniste lives here and it gives this tool a useful second life – I couldn’t bear to chop it up or use it to heat the house…

No flames here. Excellent idea. I have a few beaters.
Although the wife won’t let me do that on the main floor, it certainly would be fine for my office and workshop.

Nice idea. Better useful wall art instead of landfill waste or fire fodder.

Nice idea. At least it’s still being used, and it makes great art.
