Found in a Parking Lot

In the spring of 1994 my brother-in-law had a coworker that found a Beagle mutt puppy wandering the parking lot of a Best Western in Nashville, TN. My wife happened to visit that weekend & she came home & told me this story-so we drove 10 hours back to my sisters house to get the puppy.

Through he 16 years we had Nashville he was by our side for marriage, college graduation, birth of our children, losing my parents – a majority of the significant events in our lives. Needless to say, it was a difficult time in March of 2010 when we had to put him down.

At the time I wanted to do this type of project, but for obvious reasons I couldn’t approach it for a few months & for quite a while after didn’t feel I had the skill set to do something appropriate. Finally this winter I decided to finish it-the front panel had been laser etched in Nov 2010 & I saw it every time I went into the shop.

It took a long time to decide what type of wood to use (Koa,figured maple, claro walnut?) and finally decided on using pallet stock, from a roofing pallet, that I had found in a parking lot by work just as he had been found many years before.

My avatar (another Beagle mutt) was rescued from a shelter 5 months later & is completely spoiled by my kids.

Thanks for reading.

Very nice tribute to Nashville. There is nothing as loyal as a dog friend. I’m afraid I have have that tough decision this year or early next. My Dobie is really showing his age.

Found puppies are the best. I’m glad he adopted you and your family. Speaking from experience, it is hard to give them up when you have so many memories with them at your side or in your lap. A fitting tribute to a great friend!

Through all our 40 years of marriage we’ve always had dogs (usually more then one at a time) and it’s hard to lose them. This is a nice tribute to your buddy. Well done.

That’s a great story and a nice piece of work for Nashville. Dogs are great companions that won’t ever be forgotten by those who loved them.
