Mike and Steve are my sister in law’s stepsons. They each got a new knife for Christmas. A strop and some honing compound is just the thing to keep a keen edge on those blades. A bit of leather and some flat maple to back it up. Shape a comfortable handle. Attach the 2 inch by 8 inch leather using wood glue. Included with each strop is a block of green chromium oxide honing compound. A strop is a simple gift that will last for and be useful for an entire lifetime.

Thanks, lumberjocks.

Nicely done, and you are very correct that stropes are just the thing to keep a keen edge on a knife. In fact, I think the value of stropes is overlooked and grossly underrated.
