I had a little spare time this afternoon, so I set up the lathe, dug through a pile of branches I had cut up yesterday, and had some fun. I have no idea what the wood is, I cleaned up a local cemetery yesterday, and brought the biggest branches home.

I must say, I like my jaw chuck. It was worth every cent I paid. and my $30 set of lathe tools seem to work well. I’ll have to sharpen them before the next job, but they were making decent chips.

Nice lidded box. If the branch was green, it may warp and the lid won’t fit so good after that.

When I first turned a lidded bowl it was green cherry wood. When I got the bowl done. it warped out of round in a day or so. I used the other half of the log for the lid and I fitted it to the narrowest part of the warped bowl. Then in a month of so, the bowl moved back to round and the lid slops around on it, but I love that bowl for all the work I put into it.

Happy holiday!!.................Jim
