Here is a “comfort bird” pattern taken from issue 57 of Carving Illustrated. It’s a fun and easy project- except for all the sanding! A spindle sander is highly recommended.
Wood is alder, cherry, and walnut finished with lacquer. I need to touch up a couple of spots and take these to the buffer for a final polish.
These comfort birds will probably be gifts for the recently bereaved as a reminder that God cares for all his sparrows.

I think this is for the birds … pun intended. Those are some sweet and smooth little birds!
Reminiscent of the “pet stone” people used to carry for comfort and support!

my local carving club was commissioned to do 200 of these lil birds, Club, Eastern Woodlands Carving Club Inc. @ Converse In. This club is unique in that it owns its own 3 story building. OPEN carves every Tue 4 pm to 9 one block N of stop light on SR 18 in Converse. We also have a room UP stairs with 3 donated lathes for turning right there at the club. just getting started. Come on over some tue, wood burning (pyrography) also takes place.
