Hi all,
This is a cherry box that I made for my cousin’s wedding. It’s the first time I made something with almost all hand tools. The only machining that was done was resawing it to close to final thickness.

I don’t actually know what the box will be used to hold, since it was not made with any particular purpose in mind. I saw a similar box online and thought the design was pretty cool. I made a little “swoop” in the open part because it was a little tight for a hand to reach in.

All the wood was felled and milled by my grandfather years ago so there is a significance to the wood for myself and my cousin. I finished it with danish oil.

Thanks for looking!

What a great gesture, keeping the wood in the family. Your cousins are lucky to have relatives like you.
Your use of sapwood and heartwood makes this little box really pop.

It came out beautiful. I figure the open end of the cherry box is for the pits. ;)
