Project Information

With the Pennsylvania Spring Turkey season upon us, I finished up this Winter's batch of Turkey Box Calls to give to my hunting buddies. Walnut, Mahogany, Maple, and Cedar boxes, with mixed Bloodwood, Yellowood, Walnut, Cherry, and Cedar lids. Made mostly from scraps out of my shop left over from other projects.

Headed up to camp next week, wish me luck!

Nice work. Which "box" wood gives you the "best" call. You did a really good job on these.

Great job. I made one from some walnut scraps this winter and I used it this Spring. It called them in, but weather kept me from getting a good shot. I hope you have fair skies for your hunt.

The cedar solid box, with cedar lid has a nice tone, and so does the walnut with bloodwood lid. I REALLY like the bloodwood lids, they seem to sound good with any type of wood.

Building them isn't too hard, but the "toning" of them is the key. It is still an art I am perfecting.
